When we do an aeration on your property, we use a core aerator, meaning it pulls a core plug out about 1/2 inch in diameter and about 3 inches long. Aeration helps your soil to breathe and be able to better take nutrients. It is common practice to have this done each year – some have it done in the spring, but fall is the most optimal time to have it done. In locations where there is a problem with compaction (clay soils or high traffic areas), thatch (lots of dead grass matter on the soil surface), or sloped terrain there seems to be more response. We encourage you to locate and flag your sprinklers so that the aerator does not damage them.
